Thank you everybody for organizing the Food Bank drive at VCC. We collected 13 boxes of food. Helen wrote about the project, so keep reading.
Three ELSA classes,4A full-time class, 4B morning
class, and 4A evening class with Mandana and Vesna, our teachers, organized a Food Bank drive at VCC. In
nearly a month, we collected thirteen boxes at VCC's Broadway Campus for the
Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The boxes were in the cafeteria. On the
last day of school in 2012, some of the classmates helped to take the boxes to
Owen’s car. Owen
and I drove to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s main depot, located at 1150 Raymur
Avenue, not far from school. We have learned
about the Food Bank in class recently, but this was the first time I went there.
It’s a huge warehouse and in front of the gate there is a drop off area for
food donations. When Owen and I arrived, a volunteer came and helped
us unload the boxes from the car. We asked him about volunteering there, and he
said with a smile that he had been volunteering there for a long time. It
was a very busy day at the Food Bank. So many boxes were being unloaded and there
were many volunteers working in the warehouse at this time of the year. Even
though it was cold that day, my heart was warm. It is encouraging to see people
helping other people in the community. I’d like to have a chance to
volunteer at the Food Bank in the future. Vesna told us that we may volunteer
as a class. I really like this idea. How
about you? Would you like to help out in your community?
Helen
You are great!
